From the opening of the world’s first daily commercial passenger air service from Hounslow Heath to Paris in August 1919 by Air Transport and Travel, the glamour of Imperial Airways’ flying boats in the late 1930s hurrying on their way to destinations throughout Africa, the Far East and Australia, and the post-war achievements of BEA and BOAC to the 27 glorious years of supersonic commercial flying with Concorde, we have been consistently in the forefront of progress and customer service, in the air as well on the ground.Importantly, we also tell something of the people who, in their many and varied ways, have contributed so much to the fortunes of British Airways and its predecessors over the past 90 years.Many historic milestones are recorded in this website and represented at our Heritage Centre. They provide us with a legacy of innovation and tradition of business acumen which serve us well as we move forward to new exciting opportunities following our merger with Iberia, our Joint Business with American and our oneworld® alliance.
British Airways Engineering has over 80 years of experience in providing maintenance, repair and overhaul services to British Airways and other customers, our operational expertise has fostered a can-do culture centred on finding solutions. Our ethos is always to repair rather than replace. We have invested in state-of-the-art aircraft maintenance, avionic, interiors and mechanical workshop facilities and have a worldwide reputation for engineering excellence. Technically good solutions are shared and this saves our customers millions. Our core capabilities are centred on Boeing 737, 747, 757, 767, 777 and Airbus 320 family. In addition we have developed line maintenance capabilities for Airbus 330, 340 and 380 aircraft types. We are also the only airline to be operating the B787 as well as offering maintenance to other customers. Our certification is in accordance with EASA requirements or as required by the customer's regulatory authority. Safety, quality, reliability and continuous improvement are at the core of our culture.
